The
Twelve Steps for Christians
The Twelve Steps For Christians has given me so much insight
into the scriptures and applying them to my everyday life. I have been practicing a
recovery program for ten years and this book enhances and re-enforces the principles that
I endeavor to apply to my life in a progressive manner. I have shared this knowledge with
friends and we have used it as a study guide. This book is a powerful tool for those
interested in growing spiritually and experiencing a life changing process.
When I first got into the 12 step program in 1990 12 step literature only
took me so far in my program and I needed more or else I was in danger or returning back
to active addiction. In 1993 the company I worked for went out of business and we had to
take all of our personal items from our office. In my office were certificates of
awards, personal and family pictures gifts from friend and many others items of
importances. The only thing I made sure I took with me the day I left was this book.
Without Serenity and the divine inspired wisdom that it imparts I know I probally would
have returned back to active addiction and would have died. If you are in the 12 step
process get Serenity it will give you a true picture of what recovery is all about and
like me it might save your life.
All I can say is that I felt so alone and alien to the world before beginning to read this book. Now I realize I am not/was not alone, and there is hope for addicts. We don't want to live that way, but sometimes feel helpless and trapped. This book will help you realize that with God anything is possible, even recovery from hopeless addiction.
This has been an extremely valuable tool in my recovery process. I am
now completing my 2nd year of using it, with great satisfaction. I gave a
copy to my sponsor one year ago, he liked it so much he has given several
copies to family and friends. My sponsor has found a new and closer walk
with God as a result of using this Bible on a daily basis.
From the momentous decision to quit alcohol or drugs to the emotional, physical, and spiritual issues
that arise years into recovery, here is an indispensable road map to every step in the process of
becoming clean and sober. The Recovery Book's 30 comprehensive and supportive chapters cover
withdrawal and detox, raising drug-resistant kids, temptation and how to thwart it, staging an
intervention, sexuality, and preventing and surviving relapse.
Joe McQ., an internationally respected teacher/ lecturer on the Twelve Step method, offers countless analogies, insight, explanations and elucidations of these principles, drawing from his own recovery experience and those of the hundreds he has helped.
I finished reading this book and turned back to the front and started reading it again. How could anyone describe me so perfectly and give me the help and guidance I need when they don't even no who I am.
Codependent
No More & Beyond Codependency
Facing Codependence
Some things said simply are more powerful thanks to their simplicity. This book provides a forceful, unflinching description of how people who are raised in a dysfunctional or abusive environment often sabotage and cripple their lives. The structure of the book is straightforward. The situations Mellody discusses are often sound sadly ordinary rather than extraordinary. But the resulting emotional resonance of this book is undeniable.
Victory Over The Darkness
Why didn't somebody explain
this to me earlier?!?! Dr. Anderson explains in terms that I could truly
understand, for the first time in 20 years of my Christian life, God's gifts to
us, what He wants of us, what he wants to give us and how to really understand
the Bible. This is probably the best book I'll ever read in my life because for
me it was a guide to reading and understanding the Bible. I also highly
recommend the second book in this series The Bondage Breaker.
This book is a "unique and most valuable resource work for anyone who truly wants to help the church pick up its role and responsibility and opportunity to reduce and preven alcohol and other drug problems," says Rev. David C. Hancock, president of Minneapolis-based "Prevention of Alcohol Problems, Inc.
A worship disorder: this is how Edward T. Welch views addictions. “Will we worship ourselves and our own desires,” he writes, “or will we worship the true God?”With this lens the author discovers far more in Scripture on addictions than passages on drunkenness. There we learn the addict’s true condition: like guests at a banquet thrown by “the woman Folly,” he is already in the grave (Prov. 9:13-18).
Can we not escape our addictions? If we’re willing to follow Jesus, the author says we have “immense hope: hope in God’s forgiving grace, hope in God’s love that is faithful even when we are not, and hope that God can give power so that we are no longer mastered by the addiction.” Each chapter concludes with “Practical Theology,” guidance “As You Face Your Own Addictions” and “As You Help Someone Else.”
Don't
Sweat The Small Stuff-- and it's all small stuff
This book conveys my thoughts about how to approach life in general: keep things in perpective and enjoy the moment while responsibly planning for the future (should it actually come). Good reading for everyone who simply wants to be happier.
This book, written in clear easily understood terms, is a MUST for anyone
who thinks or feels they are family, friends or co-workers with someone prone to
compulsive behaviour. Those of us who have not been through de-tox and/or a 12 step
programme are so deficient in awareness of the illness of addiction as to be unable to
understand the effect close proximity to this illness can have upon their own lives.
Nakken explains the causes of addictive behaviour and the common theme between all forms
of addiction. Whether you work with or for a 'Control Freak' live with an alchoholic or a
gambler/shoplifter/over-eater, or have a child who is on drugs/shoplifting, this book is
for you. An excellent first step to understanding the 'illness of the 20th
Century'.Although revised for the 2nd edition (1996), it lacks a section on 'Further
recommended reading', but anyone getting this far should contact the publisher for advice
on books on more specific topics arising.
God
gifted me with a "Dream" husband, and so I struggle with feeling
inadequate as a wife. Certainly I wasn't praying for him like I knew I should.
Of course he has struggles and problems, but I was unsure how to pray for him. I
have read many books on prayer and as many on marriage, but have never found a
book that is challenging, encouraging, and PRACTICAL like this one is. I have
seen it transform women and marriages. This is a book I will be giving to
friends, both married and engaged, for years to come. PLEASE, if you don't read
anything else, read this book.
The Power of a Praying Husband
This is a simple-to-read, yet very practical book. It covers twenty different areas in which women need their husbands' prayers, including such areas as her spirit, emotions, motherhood, relationships, sexuality, trust, fears, and her desires. A separate (but brief) chapter is devoted to each topic.
God Whispers in the Night
This is one of my favorite books.
It is an excellent example of how we view ordinarily disturbing situations and
how to put them in God's care. As a counselor, I find that the book helps us to
look at the routine issues in our lives and feel better about them by seeing
them from God's perspective. Marie Shropshire shows in a very clever manner how
we can endure our problems by seeing God's love and mercy. Great book.
Hopelessness can hit anyone. It may arise when difficult events in life come our way-broken relationships, death of a loved one, unemployment or other crisis. Sometimes we are not able to work through our feelings alone. We get stuck in a cycle of sadness and suffering. We need t o be pointed toward the source of hope. This guide will show you the way.
Fortunately, recovery is possible. Not easy. Not quick. But people who
have been abused can know
God is on their side. He is committed to justice, yet full of comfort and compassion. This
Life Recovery
Guide helps put the broken pieces of your life back together again.
We all experience loss. Parents split up. Friends move away. Loved ones
die. To recover from these
losses we must face our grief. In this book, the author guides us through the emotionally
painful work of
grief and encourage us to receive God's comfort and strength.
I never understood why I did the things I did. I was given this book back
in 1989 by my high school chaplain who explained that she too went through the same
problems. Since then I have had an easier time dealing with my issues because this book
tells me exactly what my issues are and why I have them. It is still hard to explain them
to my husband, coworkers, and friends, however-it does not matter as much anymore-I have
regained my confidence and have more self-control of my life. Today I bought my best
friend a copy, no wonder we get along so well.
Adult
Children of Alcoholics Syndrome
ACOA Syndrome showed me the reasons behind the craziness in my life and taught me how to heal from it.
Real
Small Groups Don't Just Happen
Think all it takes to create community is to gather people together? Think again. Community doesn't just happen-it takes work. Just like friendships take time to develop, a small-group community needs to be nurtured in order to grow.
In Real Small Groups Don't Just Happen, small-group expert Neal McBride takes you on a tour of what it takes to build real community. He examines the elements necessary to nurture a real, functioning, healthy small group that cares for its members and makes a lasting difference in their lives.
Safe People
Some people are good for us, some are not. Safe people are people who help drive emotional healing and character growth. Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend show how we can find the people who will help us down the path to healing and void those who may damage our emotional health. Safe People: How to Find Relationships that are Good for You provides practical ground-breaking help which lays a firm foundation for personal growth. Safe People is important, practical reading for today's modern world.
